Default I thought I had bought a shaper

I woke up this morning and saw a newly listed shaper in Gumdale Qld on Ebay with a buy it now price of $1000. It was an Alba type 4. I hit the agree to buy, received the confirmation email and I contacted the seller to arrange pickup. He contacts me back later in the day to say he has sold it to someone else privately.

Now I get a reminder from ebay to pay and fianalise the sale. I am trying to get that sorted so I don't have a black mark for not competing a sale. I had spent the morning clearing a space and sorting transport. So that wasted half a day, only to have someone decide to renege on a sale and sell it to someone else. All I can say is not happy Jan. What ever happened to people agreeing to a contract.

Thanks for listening to my rant, I don't know if I feel any better but it is better than kicking the neighbors dog, I don't own a dog. (for the non Australians this is a saying, I was not intending to kick any dog).

Make sure you let ebay know.

Darn would have been nice I bet.

I am trying to report to Ebay, the problem is I keep getting a message saying I can't report until I pay.
If someone on here has bought a green 4S shaper from Gumdale please do me a favor and contact the seller and help him sort Ebay by canceling the sale. I won't say anything else as Mum would not be happy with me not saying nice things.

By the sounds of it, you didn't buy anything. Just let it time out... you won't pay, and he won't supply- there is no conflict here.

As the "Buyer", you should be able to contact the Seller and tell him directly.

I have contacted the buyer, and he freely admits he sold it to someone else after I agreed to buy. He did not want to cancel the sale as it would look bad for him. I have left the appropriate feedback. I know Ebay is automated to a certain extent but this also happened about ten years ago to me. I received an automated warning from Ebay about not paying and it took a couple of weeks for them to retract the warning.

If the seller cancels the sale it removes that part of the frustration.

I am equally frustrated on having the guy renege, the wasted time and trying to deal with Ebays automated emails.

Check for the option of cash on pickup, or an option to select that it has been paid for.
Ebay has made the options harder to find as they want to direct people through their payment system but the options are there.

I had one item that kept bugging me I had not paid, but it was cash on pickup, eventually found the option under another drop down to mark as payment sent.

If the contact with the buyer is via the messaging system in EBay then raise it further with EBay. If not contact them via EBay so it is recorded, they can access messages between buyer / seller.

The contact has been on Ebay, I know it can and will be sorted, it will just take time and jumping through hoops. I would just like to scream from the top of my lungs, Dont !@#$ people around. If you agree to something stand by your word and don't let greed take over. If you make a mistake, own it and just cancel the sale on Ebay and wear the black mark if there is one. Is it too much to ask that we stick by our word.

Try writing to ebay, and include all of the relevant documentation . When ebay first started, I had a situation where I paid for a ebay item with a Post Office money order, the money order was duly returned with "no known address" on the envelope, the seller had given me a dud address and he then claimed the money order didn't arrive . He gave me a negative feedback mark on my ebay account.

I got another money order, sent it off , same thing . it was returned with "no known address" seller was even more upset as he still got no payment. I contacted the seller more than once in order to confirm his postal address but he was behaving like a complete moron, being abusive and impossible to deal with.

I printed out his initial ebay message that he had sent me with his (dud) postal address , and I also photocopied the money order (and the envelope I used with his dud address) that I had sent to the seller and I posted all this documentation off to Ebay HQ in Sydney.

Ebay HQ promptly removed his negative feedback mark from my account and they cleared up the mess.

Ahh! Just the perfect time to do a MetalWork Forum community service announcement.

The above situation is the very same reason we don,t allow people to advertise equipment goods in our Marketplace and on Ebay/ Fecesbook and other outside vendors.

Mainly it is new guys that haven't read the STICKY guide above the Marketplace page.

Its been real good in the market place for a while and I thank everyone for that, but sooner or later some that don't read too well will come along and upset the applecart.

Admin folk are not here to sort out problems like like and will delete the offending post if it is noticed elsewhere.

Reidy 41,you are cool mate, Just using your situation to illustrate what can happen.

Thanks everyone for your time taken to read this.

Assuming cash payment was an option, I'd be sorely tempted to go to the "more actions" drop down for the item on my ebay summary page, clicking "mark as payment sent" and make it the sellers problem.
You have paid what is owed after all.......If Ebay chases him for fees that's his problem surely?

I could, but then I feel I would be sinking to his level, that is making a false statement.
I also read Grahame's post and very much appreciate this forum having the marketplace rules it has.

I should also mention that I am not implying it was a member here that ended up with the shaper.
I am sure the right one will come along if I am meant to have one. It was just easier to vent here than to my lovely wife who had a bad day dealing with our insurance company from the storms last October. Yes we are still getting repairs done.

On the plus I purchased a set of Autoloc collets from a great guy, I just need to remind myself 99% of people are good.

If it were me, and the seller wouldn’t cancel the transaction, I’d be selecting the cash on pick up, mark it payment sent then sit back knowing that not looking bad came at the price of the listing plus the fees for the sale.. and evilbay have just jacked their cut to 13%.. so you know it’s not coming cheap in this instance

It’s the bridges you burn that light the way forward..

Go to your purchase history on eBay. Select "I didn't receive it" under More Actions if that is an option and select, I would still like this item. Explain the situation and eBay should respond. I think both seller and ebay see this and if the seller does not respond eBay will. Not sure if you got the option or not but worth a look.

Yes the option is there, first you need to contact the seller and he has 3 days to respond. Exactly why I suggested making sure the response from the seller is in EBay communications.
If the seller does not resolve the problem then you report that issue with EBay for them to follow up as per this resolution process.
