Tamper resistant screws to hold on number plates.
Several vehicles (including one of ours) in our St have have number plates stolen. Can anyone recommend tamper resistant fasteners to use in these circumstances?

Bob, I know the hassle of such, if there is sufficient room behind the bumper bar or attach point, use a double nut, better stainless, perpetrators want to get it off fast, most dealers just use tek screws anyway. Alan.

Not a "screws" solution, but could stainless steeel pop rivets solve more problems than they might cause?

You can buy purpose made safety number plate screws in supercrapauto. Just don't get it wrong cos they are obviously not easy to remove and replace!!!!!

Hi Bob.
Double nut with red Locktite and your number plates won't be coming off anytime soon.

I don't know the relevant regulations I was informed by Service SA, has to do with the fact that they are not your property so have to be able to be removed.

Here's the rest of the story story.
Apparently several nasty types have been rocking up to servos around Perth driving vehicles with stolen number plates, fuelling up and driving off. Servo people supply sec vid footage to cops who quickly work out plates are stolen because they don't match vehicle make etc. Cops come around to our place and see number plate is missing on our vehicle.
Anyway it's cost us $30 to get new plates and $7 for a pack of one way screws!

Victorian police will actually fit them for you. https://www.police.vic.gov.au/safepl8
They go one further, mate a while back bought a new to him car advertised online. About 3 months later he received a series of speeding tickets from over east. Turns out someone copied his numberplate on similar model car, colour model etc and these were the fines from them. Police explained that since rego stickers stopped being issued it often happens. He had to provide proof that he hadn't left state and provide photos of his actual car. He quickly had new plates issued.
