    I hadn't realised the grinder in question is an angle grinder, thought it was a bench mounted one.
    9 inch should have been a clue, but I've used bench grinders with huge wheels so that didn't register.

    I have Fixtec nuts on my angle grinders for convenience, ~$14 each.
    They don't need a tool to tighten or undo, but if they get stuck a wrench can be used.

    ive had this problem many times, clamp the wheel in a vise and then use a cold chisel and hammer. works everytime.
