I've decided to just cut the post off 100mm and use a longer Stirrup, and move on.

I have already done one of them using the same height stirrup so that one will be the odd one out....no matter. I may replace it with a longer one when all the others are done.

I think I had 'tunnel vision' and was focused on one method and its just too hard. Must be my OCD....lol
Sometimes its a blessing....sometimes it thows you off. I shall reverse back out of this rabbilt hole and go down the new one.

I already bought a couple of spares, so I will take them back and exchange for the longer ones and try again next weeked.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys....I had ran out of ideas and you showed me the way.

Now to work out how to cut 100mm neatly off the bottom of a vertical post.....lol
    I'm thinking a 6" circular saw.

One further suggestion would be to remove the post altogether if the top fixings have been better shielded from the weather, and can be removed easily, and take the whole post to a strong (Steel?) bench, preferably with a suitably sized hole and place the stuck bolt over the hole. Strike the projecting bolt end with a sledge hammer and you will most likely shift it. You may have to add an extension to the bolt if you don't have enough protruding, but a 10 or 14lb. sledge hammer will have a fair impact.
A hydraulic press would be another good option. Good luck.

Yep, just clamp a straight square guide to the post and saw away.

I’m late to the party, but could the bolts be left in place and the new stirrup attached or alternatively cut the bolts off flush and drill extra holes in the stirrup or swing the stirrup to the other side of the post.

Thanks apple8. I originally wanted to keep the stirrups in the same orientation and DIDN'T want to shorten the posts.
I've now decided its too hard to do that and will concentrate on cutting 100mm off all the posts and getting it done.

Found a couple Tube vids on ways to do it neatly.....think I have a handle on it....lol
