Anyone willing to make some custom bolts?
Hi guys
I need some new bolts for my slasher so that I can put different blades on it.
Existing blades are 10mm thick but need to put 13mm ones on.
So the shoulder where the blade sits needs to be 3mm higher and the hole in new blade is 35mm instead of 32mm, so new shoulder needs to be 35mm instead of 32mm.
Will send you a brand new existing bolt to copy. I’ve put rough measurements on the drawing to give you an idea of sizing. Most of the diameter measurements are actually 0.04mm shorter.
Existing bolts on my invoice says material is 4140 peeled.
Would be looking at getting 8 made, 4 in use and 4 spares for when they wear down.Cheers

Yeah I could do it, as Im sure a lot of members could, but Lord thats going to be pricey out of 4140!
Do you need rolled threads or cut?
The sample pics look cut to me.

Definitely cut from looking at them.
Yes I know they’re gunna cost a few dollars, original bolts cost me about $51 each landed at my doorstep from WA.
Any idea on what you’d charge?Cheers

I charge $20/hr cos I love what I do and my machines don't own me anything anymore. Probs take me 1/2hrs to do each one, so 80 - 100 labor. But to make 8 of them you are going to need 750mm of bar stock which I just checked would come to $380 just on the material! I rekon i'd be cheaper to buy them. Honestly I'd love to the job but it's be more expensive than it would just to buy them

So that’s about $60 each if my calculations are correct.
I can’t buy them cause they don’t make them, I’d have to pay for them to draw up a new cad program etc as they’re done on a CNC machine.
I’d rather the work went to someone here, so they’d get some pocket or beer money.Cheers

If those heads can be slightly undersize from 50mm that material would be less expensive

If they could be a little undersize or bang on 50mm material would come down to 260

What size is the material you said would be $380?
The 50mm is fine in raw material, it’s gunna get smashed around anyway.Cheers

Thats exactly what I was thinking. 65mm was the pricey one. I cannot get 55 (that would be ideal) but if your happy for me to start with 50mm and leave the heads undressed then that would be easy to. Let me have a chat to another supplier tomorrow and see if I can't get material at a better price.

What about reducing the thickness of the blade by 3mm, but only where the bolt area is so that way you could stick with the same bolts. Another idea, but the blade might be too hard could the hole in the blade be counter bored by 3mm ?.
