I’ve got a smaller version - a VHU36. Beautiful piece of tooling and great to use.
The 80 is a big lump though - at 140mm fully closed diameter.
    Is that what you’re wanting?

I was looking at the facing diameter originally, could probably get away with a 36 and save a few $$.

It can be tough to do small work on a big boring head but its easier than big work on a small one. If the Z allows it id get an 80.

Even when boring a plain hole the fa ing can be useful to back the tool away and stop it cutting on the retract.

we have a VHU-125 (i think) at work and it is awesome. It has pulled be through so many sketchy jobs. wouldn't hesitate to buy a Narex for home.

just looked at the quote I got. Don't do enough work to justify that much expense.

    1 x VHU 80-D Boring Head Kit $8350.00
    1 x Arbour to suit (BT40) $590.00

Narex are one of the 'brands', so you will pay for one.
You might be better off looking on ebay, see whether anything comes up.
The import heads are usually not awful (and plenty of people have made their own too)

I expected that it would be expensive, just not quite that much! Guess I'll go down the asian import route for now.

Yeah you will have to go second hand. If you think that's bad get a quote for a wohlhaupter or dandrea ITS. Your eyes will fall out your bum.

There’s some used on eBay at the moment. Complete kits under $2k

Another brand very similar is Kuroda.
Watch out for the arbors if you are buying used. Some heads have integral arbors - some like the Narex are interchangeable. From memory it’s not a brand or size based thing, more of an option so pays to confirm.

I am amazed they are still making these if that is the asking price.

Seems like pricing yourself out of the market to me.

Nearly $9k for a boring head. That's a fair chunk of the coin it takes to buy a mill or VMC.

ours at work has paid for its self many times over, it might seem expensive to a hobbiest, but when you are chasing productivity you need to have good tools.

Not sure what you think a VMC would cost but $9k wouldn't even cover the GST.

M&G productions got a 63? or 36?, need to check, size for 1300 odd but i don't remember if that was inc GST. Seems very nicely built.

Edit- - - Just found the bill. It was 1025 + GST and freight. Doesn't tell me the size though and its too bloody cold to go outside and check . Its the smaller one whatever the number is. Bigger than i will ever need but the next size up shouldn't be huge money. He did order it in as he doesn't stock it so it took a while.
He also bought in a very nice dual beam digital height gauge for $250 ++ for me, and some D1-6 backplates for my new lathe. It is always worth asking him as he can get a lot more than whats on his web site, i find his stuff good at a very good price.
