Thumbs up Surprising things you see in the countryside !

    Hi Guys,

My wife and I decided to have a drive down into the Lincolnshire countryside seeing that it was such a nice day and have a picnic whilst we were out. As you can see, a cloudless blue sky and an air temperature of 80F.

We were driving North alongside the river Trent, in Lincolnshire driving though a small village called "East Stockwith" when we came across this

I think that it is a 4" inch mobile mounted field gun stood on the verge at the side of the road. Not something that you see every day. I couldn't resist taking a picture of it.

Not the sort of thing I would leave sitting around if I were the MoD...

John, here in Australia, lots of places especially country towns have a de-commissioned artillery piece somewhere as a war memorial sort of thing. Never seen one that big though.

We have probably 5km of tanks, cannons on wheels etc,etc along with so many signs with the the numbers of men we lost in each regiment up this way in Muswellbrook NSW.
All decommissioned though as Michael said.

Would be pretty strange to see a live one without the army around, or locked up.
Over here it would be guarded until moved.

I'd be moving that thing a long way from the house when hostilities start!

A lot of the artillery pieces we see here are actually war trophies- enemy guns captured in battle and brought back by the regiment to commemorate the victory.

Saw a clip a little while ago of a house in a side street in an English village that has a fully serviceable Spitfire parked in the garden.

Maybe they heard that Jeremy Clarkson is looking at buying in the area.

    Hi Guys,

From the look of the grass and weed growth around that thing, it hasn’t moved for a while !

    I was thinking that.

    Way cooler than a gnome.

Should be pretty safe, I'm guessing ammo isn't easy to come by

An un-named council officer said the feud between neighbours had be escalating for some time.
