Assuming its unloaded output is 12V, I'd say you've overloaded it and the output has dropped. If you connect only one LED does it consume 5W?

Are you using the power pack that's supplied in the base of the lamp or something else?

Got 5 minutes today to test the setup with the lamps in series.
Light output seems good and was still getting 275 mA. Think I'll go with that.

Next is to get it all mounted and usei t!

Yes, I have 'series' and 'parallel' terminolgy right.
LEDs are current driven devices, so running them in series means the same current goes through both LEDS.
It appears that this setup works fine. The brightness of both lamps are the same and at a good level.
I still have 275 mA drawn from the plug pack, I am not overloading the plugpack. If the voltage is high enough to forward bias both leds, then we are golden.
I suspect that if there was a problem the plug pack would get very warm in a short space of time. Its does not.
I think the job is done and I'm very happy with it.
All that reamins to do is to use over a long term, and see if anything arises.

Hi Guys,
Some of these electronic power supplies are designed to current limit ! That is the voltage varies whilst the current is limited to a set value. The only way that you can test that is by measuring the DC output current into a single load, then doubling the load and measuring the current to see if its doubled as expected !
There are some very clever LED driver chips around, particularly for automobile lighting.Best Regards:
Baron J.
