Default The SC4 Tailstock is horrible!

Hi there, I have a question about the Sieg SC4 and variants. If this is in the wrong forum please have me severely flogged and point me in the right direction...

The tailstock is woeful, it seems accurate enough but unless you push the thing down heavily with every movement chips and muck get underneath. I've adjusted the slide and locking washers under the stock so I 'just have' slide when unlocked, but it makes little difference, any tighter and it grabs.

So, does anyone have this lathe and found a better solution, a tailstock from a different machine, a 3rd party option?

    Over to you folks.

    Many thanks.

Have you considered a felt wiper on the front of the TS so that the chips can't get in?

    Hi Scruntfundle, Guys,

Didn't we go through this problem a short time ago !

I recall that you were asked to check if the clamp plate was flat and did it slide on a machined surface, I don't recall if you made any reply.

I don’t know John, but the OP has a history of posting a question and then disappearing without acknowledging the responses. Might be a good idea to wait and see if he returns before offering too much input.
