HM 50/52 owners
Has any one ran a 100 mm face mill in either there Vertical or Horizontal spindle and if so what results did you get, type of material and max RPM and Depth of Cut and rough feed rate.
I don't need to know about fly cutter use unless you would like to mention.

You will like my next upgrade for the HM52 which I'll post about soon as I'm just finishing it off.
Still have several other upgrades behind it which I have all the parts for.
I'll keep you updated.

HM52. I have a Kennametal 7 insert 65mm face mill that I use from time to time but I don't push it. Usually 700RPM, max 1mm DOC in mild steel, hand cranked at what the cutter and mill seem comfortable with. If Sir John had ever used an HM52 I'm sure he would have referred to it as a wet noodle.

Thank you for the replies, I am currently using an 80mm K12 face mill in cast iron, 50 mm cut width, 2.5mm DOC at 80mm/ min, 500 RPM , I need to face 98mm stock and would rather do this in one pass with a similar face mill but at 100 dia.
The DOC with the 100 would only be about 1mm or less.

I think you will be fine using a 100mm, just listen to mill it will soon tell you if it doesn't like a curtaint depth of cut.

Hi Guys,
I have a 65 mm, insert side and face cutter, I don't use it ! It grinds, squeals and rattles, I much prefer my flycutter. I can take a 1 mm DOC at 250 rpm in steel without a problem, though I get much less tool wear and a better finish at half that DOC.Best Regards:

Are you another member of the club, I think they are called a Chester T universal mill over there in the UK.

Hi Dave, Guys,
No ! My mill is an "Optimum" clone, made in the PRC.
Didn't you see the pictures of the crap that I washed out of the spindle bearings !Best Regards:

No I didn't see it.
Been out of the loop of the forum and only just getting back into it.
It was just Pipeclay asking for advice on this type of mill I thought you owned a UK clone.
