The BS-5S has an adjustable stop for resetting zero and a locking bolt to keep it there.

Something I've been planning on for years but with all the house moves I'm finally settled again, and been thinking about it again lately.
I've got scribble drawings and all the parts diagrams to bring the old 6x4 bandsaws into a new world with angle cuts.

My plan has always been to scrap the original base/vice and copy the larger saws with there accurate swivel idea without loosing any cutting capacity, and with my 100x150mm getting actual more cutting capacity.
It's coming slowly, as there are a few pipe sizes needed etc for the swivel.

For anyone thinking buy the bigger saw with it already incorporated which I could have picked up used for $1400 the other month locally, I love the little bandsaw over my 7x12.

If it's anything like my Douglas shaper underdrive Joe will beat me to it again, but he ran into some fitting problems.
My other 3/4 modified shaper has been sitting idle waiting to be finished for years. I need to finish it as I need the room, lol

This is the type of model I intend on copying.

With the cost of the 5s just shy of double the 4s, I’d sort of expect a few extra features to justify the extra spend

Obviously. If you read the whole thread you’ll see the relevance of my post.

For $500 you don't get a coolant feed but I can rig one with a 12v model aircraft refueling pump.
I have a project in mind but I need to be able to do accurate and neat cuts at 45 & 22.5 degrees on 50x50x3 RHS.

Hello Smidsy. I bought one of these very units a couple of months ago & after some time, effort & patience in setting it up properly, I have been very pleased with its operation. See my posts back in the main bandsaw thread in late March - Page 12, post 170, & the following new bandsaw thread by Grahame; post 3 with some photos. I don't have flood cooling rigged up yet, relying on squirts of WD40 or oil as required. Worth the money IMHO.

Wow I went and had a look at the website, I honestly didn't realise how expensive these saws have become.
My son bought the 5s for under $550 about 6-7 years ago delivered from H&F.
I'm really amazed how all the prices of everything have jumped up so much, when our wages etc haven't.

I'm 53 now, but it's like me growing up when I was a teenager wanting to be a home machinist and buy my own machines.
Looking at prices the H&F catalogue back then (even the used section in the catalogue) thinking wow there way to expensive for me, it seems the same now. H&Fs was actually cheap for several years.
I still have a catalogue from back then, a older machinist gave me after buying some things from him.

    I paid $649 for mine at H&F in Nov 2018. It's now $924. That's a 42% increase in 2 ½ years.

Most of that 42% is a result of the last 12months, I priced one late 2019 as part of an insurance settlement, the quote from the supplier was $724 on my door. With the advent of bat stew virus supply hasn’t kept up with demand.

I guessed as much. I agree with Dave. Seems everything has gone up. My local restaurants have added about 10% to their prices. I reckon they are just trying to claw back their COVID losses.

I don't think machinery dealers did to bad in covid, everyone was home bored with nothing to do.
