I'm sure many who have them don't actually "need" them, but a shaper is just a beautiful machine to see in action! Absolutely sensational!
I love turning big bits of steel into little piles of swarf as much as the next guy, but I'll be stoked when I eventually get time to rebuild my old Lock Co shaper (thanks Riverbuilder) and get it going!
I couldn't think of anything more relaxing than setting it going on something, and then kicking the feet up with a cuppa watching it plug away!
I too have a really old automatic power hack saw (14" model), and watching that cut up railway sleepers is a thing of pure joy!
cheers, Ian

I didn't need a shaper either but then one day one of the members here were selling theirs, a Macson 18" originally from ministry of defence. I couldn't resist!
I'm in the process of scraping it back to some level of flatness. It makes for a good first scraping project.
I suspect it was built in Australia between 1940 - 1945. An amazing piece of Aussie history to have in my shed!
Cheers,
Simon

If I could get it shipped to SEQLD for reasonable money I would be interested. Some how I don't think Australia post would deliver .

Make him an offer. Freight might not be all that bad - worth a look. Hopefully you won't need the vice
