Default Tough Drill Belt Guard Swap

There is no provision for swapping in the forum's Market Place so I'm asking the question here.

Does anyone have a cast iron spindle pulley belt guard, as per the first photo, from a late model Tough drill they would swap for a pressed steel guard from a similar late model drill?

The pressed guard will not fit a drill equipped with the low speed intermediate pulley. Sharp eyed Tough aficionados will notice the drill in the second photo has the intermediate pulley fitted. The guard had been brutally modified to accommodate the inverted motor pulley. The guard I wish to swap is in good original condition. The guard comes with the essential cast iron rear support mounting which fits onto the motor mounting rails.

I don’t have a front cover I’m prepared to part with, but if you want a custom sized tin lid to clear pulleys, I’d be willing to have a crack at knocking some tin for you.

That is a very generous offer Racingtadpole but I have the cast aluminium guard that Tough provided to suit the drill with the intermediate pulley. It's just that I had gotten used to seeing the pulleys on display.

Darn it Bob! Now you have me thinking about how to make one from scratch from Al.
(Bit of rolling, bit of pressing, bit of welding...)

The little Tough equipped with the cast aluminium belt guard. I will probably just repaint it, fit it and move onto the next job on the list.

Default Tough Drill Belt Guard Swap

Wow, great job on the resto. I love the color combo too.
Did you polish the bright steel on a mop wheel?

    Thank you Dale.

The column and the spindle have been cleaned up in the lathe using carborundum paper and Scotch-brite. All the other shiny bits are 316 which I gave a wipe over with a Scotch-brite pad. Tough supplied the drill with bright steel fixtures and fittings. I have a problem with corrosion in my shed hence the stainless steel replacements.

The colour scheme isn't some personal whimsy. It is as close as I can get to the original Tough finishes on their late version drill.

What a great Photo Bob - better than show room quality .
It looks like you brought the drill into your Photography/Optical gear cave for the shot?

    Thanks Bob,

I have slowly been assembling the drill in the tin shed. Out of harms way.

My intention is for the drill to end up in the hands of my eldest daughter so I might make up some sort of wooden case to facilitate its storage and transport. I don't really have a use for it given that I have the Waldown 3M.

For those that don't know, Bob's tin shed is a cosy lined studio/treasure trove, with all sorts of measurement/optical/other goodies in it.

Box is a good idea for transport as they are tricky to move around with bending/breaking something.
