What are these?
Went back to my mates heavy engineering workshop to have more of pick through unwanted "stuff" mainly fasteners.
Most were in sizes way out of my league, but managed to pick up more SS M6/8/10/12 fasteners, offcuts of steel bar 20 - 40mm, All thread rod from 10 to 42mm. 25x25x3mm SS angle also some 20mm SS rod.
Amongst the fasteners was these Cu M6 threads headless screws.
Anybody have an idea what they are for?

Weld studs. The dimple on the bottom initiates the weld (spot welding) and while the current is on, they are pushed into the molten weld nugget.

Went back to the mates for one last scavenge before it all goes into the skips.
Not much was left of interest.
Most of the metal was either too long or thick.
A few more stainless nuts and bolts, a few M10s and a box of M12s, some 8mm SS rod.
More small Al Angle plus some AL rod.
Some 20mm square steel stock.
A few pieces of SS shimming stock, including a roll of 0.05mm thick SS foil
I thought they were chucking out all their Al and SS but that is not the case so I can go back for more anytime up until they sell up.
My mate picked up a short bit of a small I beam to make into a pseudo anvil. He grabbed a lot more SS nuts and washers - apparently he's going to stay making some sculpture like objects with these bit he will need to learn how to weld first. Just about all the old machines have found a home which is some sort of achievement.
