    Default Post Drill

I recused this post drill, and thought I would clean it up a bit.

Who made “The Globe” post drills?

I gave her a citric bath for a couple days and with a bit of gentle persuasion I managed to get most of the parts off, but how do I gets these parts off?

I too believe Dawn may be the manufacturer. I don't know if "Globe" is a Dawn brand, or whether Dawn manufactured them for Globe (or vis-versa).

The second picture is the Coupler that couples the Feed Screw to the Spindle. This needs to be disconnected first.

On my Dawn No.611 post drill there's a set screw on the left-hand side to release the feed screw. On my Canadian Blower & Forge No.61 post drill there's a fork at the bottom of the coupler to release the spindle.

I'm not familiar with Globe post drills, but now that you've removed the two set screws from the coupler, either the spindle will slide out the bottom (releasing the angled cog in the process), or you can wind out the feed screw. If it's the feed screw then you'll most likely have to wind it upwards and out - but if it has a non-threaded section at the bottom (inside the coupler) then you'll need to wind it downwards - which can be problematic as you'll likely run into the coupler/spindle before you have it all the way out.

If the spindle can be withdrawn downwards first, then the feed-screw and it's nut can be withdrawn downwards together.

It may be a case of partly withdraw the spindle (downwards) to give clearance to withdraw the feed screw and nut (also downwards) before pushing the spindle back up far enough to remove the square key that runs in the slot in the spindle, and then withdrawing the spindle all the way down.

Experiment until you work out the correct method for a Globe post drill.

Good luck, and please put up photos (for the next Globe new owner).

    Cheers, Vann.
