Drill sharpener machine
Hi all
Hope this is the right place to post this. I have just brought a second hand drill sharpener came with all collets etc just wanted to know if anybody has one similar or has used one like mine to help me fine tune it. Didn't come with any paperwork but was originally from telstra/ telecom. It's a Brenco Australian made 430b. Sorry I have forgotten how to post photos but will try later.
Thanks Stewy

That looks somewhat similiar to a Lisle drill bit grinder. PDF Url below, may or may not be helpful - the new Lisles don't use collets whilst yours does. best of luck with it.

Drill grinder
Hello to all.
I think it is more like a Meteor. The Lysle uses a wiper arm to pass the drill cutting edge over the wheel. This unit appears to rotate the collet in a holder that works against a cam in the body. The trick will be in setting the drill in the collet to the correct orientation.
regards

Drill Sharpener, Brenco 430b
Hi guys,
I'm new to this so please forgive if I get something wrong, but I have one of these drill sharpeners at work and use it often.
Steps for correct use are:
* Select appropriate collett and insert into holder
* Insert drill bit with about 3/4 inch protruding and do up collett lock to a snug fit
* Insert the holder into the appropriate setting station (labelled in number drill sizes on the top), and engage the point of the drill bit into the setting arrangement at the end.
* At the same time push and rotate the collett/holder/drill-bit assembly clockwise until one of the two stop pins on the holder reach the end stop on the setting station, and finish tightening the holder locking handle
* Remove the assembly from the setting station and insert into the sharpening station on the left hand side of the machine
* Ensure that when the holder is pushed all the way into the grinding station, that there is clearance to the grinding wheel (turn the handle on the slide)
* At this point switch the grinder on
* Slowly wind the slide handle clockwise, in small increments, whilst rotating the holder in the grinding station (and up against the cam), until the grinding wheel starts to touch the drill-bit
* Remove the holder from the station, rotate 180 degrees and try to grind the other face (it should just touch, if the drill has worn evenly)
* Continue to advance the slide in small increments, grinding each face of the drill-bit each time
*** Minor tweaks to the rake angle of the drill cutting face can be done by adjusting the angle of the setting arrangement in each station (don't be afraid to twiddle, just keep notes on the most appropriate settings)
It is truly a beautifully made grinder.
Good luck.

Hi all thanks for the interest in my new machine and also thanks for the information into helping me solve my little problems with it!!!!
SupaTone
On your machine are all the setting stations set to zero? In my playing with my machine I adjusted one well past zero because when I was grinding the drill only the cutting edge was being ground, leaving a high spot on the back edge of the drill making the drill rub and not cut. I hope this makes sense. Explaining things in written word isn't one of my great skills.
Again thanks everyone.
