According to this mob they're made here (I believe the factory is in Melbourne) https://www.revolutionindustrial.com...rill-set-m2-hs
According to the Sutton website the HSS stock is European sourced

Oz, NZ and China. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are slowly shifting all manufacturing to China. I’ll ask the rep next time I see him.

I don't think they will move entirely to China, at least not in the short term. They bought Carbitool a few years ago (and haven't just absorbed it and shut it down), so that indicates to me that they're going to keep some production local; probably the premium stuff here and the budget stuff offshore.
Their PVD coating operation is definitely in Melbourne; we just paid a small fortune to have some parts CrN coated. Plain nitriding would probably do, but aerospace customer wants CrN, so aerospace customer gets CrN

When I visited a year or so ago all the HSS tooling that is sutton branded (not PN or frost) was made here with the heat treating done at the old patience and Nicholson works.
all the frost stuff is out of China.
The viper drills are split point. Very good indeed.

I definitely saw "Made in China" on the packaging of some of the smaller Viper bits in Bunnings last week. Interestingly, some older stock of the same sized bits were made in NZ. So maybe a recent change? The cobalt bits were all marked Made in Oz.

It would be a brave or foolhardy Australian company nowadays that outsourced to China.

We are trying to 'on-shore' some production at the moment. The biggest stumbling block seems to be some of our production staff, who see the level of automation we need to develop as 'too complicated', and want an off the shelf, turn-key solution.

Just had a look at my Sutton Viper set ,can’t see any where it says where it is made, just 100% Australian owned. They are a few years old.

Looking at the Australian made campaign. It seems in plain HSS drills they only make the stub and long drills and the inbox stuff here. The others must be outsourced.
That sucks and certainly did not used to be the case.

Had a look in total tools today, some of the viper drills were made in NZ and some were unlabeled. the carbon steel taps were made in japan. i wonder if they are getting squeezed by the big green shed to cut costs on the retail lines they sell.

Nearly every Viper bit I looked at in Bunnings today was made in NZ. A few were marked “100% Australian Owned” which of course means “made in China”.
