Bead Roller
I am considering purchasing a bead roller, but I don't know much about them.
Sheet metal projects that have a rolled wire edge caused me to consider purchasing a bead roller, and as Hare and Forbes have their cheapest roller (SJ-24D - Bead Roller) on special at the moment, and soon it is Christmas.......
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Alan.

I got a 24” bead roller earlier this year. Kang Industries’ Kaka roller was cheaper than H&F. Quality is good and used it to strengthen multiple flat panels.
I didn’t bother with a stand as it works great in a vice.

November sale is on now @H&F why wait
If doing many a bead roll is the way to go doing by hand is long and time consuming.

I ended up purchasing a H&F SJ-24D - Bead Roller. Local pick-up for me - so no delivery costs.
Should create a worthwhile learning experience!
Thanks for the comments from Forum members. Most appreciated!
Regards,
Alan.

Hi Alan,
I just posted my own bead roller thread then saw this thread. Your machine states it will roll up to 1.2mm. Is there a physical limit at 1.2mm thickness or would a 1.3mm sheet of steel fit in it? I have some drawers to make but most of the cheaper bead rollers state a max of 1.2mm.

I’ve seen the other thread is well going, so to help anyone who comes across this thread...
There isn’t anything physical about the bead roller that will stop material thicker than 1.2mm being inserted. The gap would actually allow close to 20mm thick material - but realistically the limitations are:
- Clamping pressure
- Bead die hardness
- Overall strength of the other components
As an example, even if rolling a bead in 1mm aluminium, you’d be struggling to reach the maximum die depth in a single pass. You have to slowly increase the bead size over multiple passes, with each pass roughly the same clamping pressure. This keeps everything within the limitations. But it also means with patience you can somewhat exceed the specifications.
