Default Clearing sale tool prices for those interested.

On 17/10/20 there was an on line clearing sale at Lemnos (Shepparton). Lots of expensive vintage engines with some poorly maintained machinery and tooling and lots of of books etc as well as the truck loads of crap.
Some prices you may be interested in

Most items very poorly maintained and some apparently stored outside.
    Plan cabinet $110
Small manual table Adcock Bridgeport with slotter head, 3 phase. Large crack in knee and piece broken out of cross slide. $2100
Larger Chinese reversing tapping chuck $400
15-18" English Selsun shaper (unused and rusting up) $450
Small pedestal style Cinccy T&CG with small elec 240V? motor retro fitted, T&CG apparently rusted solid $350
    Denbeigh horizontal mill $200
A large ugly Barnes radial arm drill (with the drill worm table) $750
3 steel boxes of rusted horizontal mill cutters, some mostly worn out slab mills, $130, $160, $200
Steel box sundries and some gear cutters some reground almost away, $300+
A box of expandable reamers (maybe 15-20) $975
    Vintage engines $1000 - $10000+

One lot was of a pressed tin stand ((Total Oil?) with 10 glass quart bottles and spouts $975

I noticed one box of books with a Machinery's Handbook in it No interest in it. So my one and only purchase for the day for $5 + 5% BP. The bargain of the day.

    Wow,

Did all that stuff sell for those prices mentioned?

Crickey i would not have bought a single item at those prices and stated condition.

    Simon,

Yes; those are the prices paid. Another 5% buyers premium on top of that.

There was 440 or so lots and mostly made good money. Doesn't help the dead owner though.

I made some bids earlier on; but I am still covered in footprints where I got trampled by those with deep pockets.

I thought my Machinery's Handbook was a bargain at $5.25. I guess the other books in the carton will end up in the bin.

Some people go ballistic at auctions, they want the item no matter what it costs them. A lot of money paid for essentially scrap metal.
What type of books are they??? Manuals, catalogues, never know might be of some use to someone?

    Kryn,
No idea yet what the other books are. It was an online auction due to the "Crapvid".
There had been heaps of boxes of catalogues and some boxes of books.
I hadn't been paying a lot of attention but as this box flashed on the screen I noticed the Machinery's Handbook.
Promptly hit the bid button and that was it.

Pickup day is Thursday; which allows the Shepparton outbreak to die down a bit more.

Well, the great book pickup occurred today. A mixed bag and a "bit" dated.

    Machinery's handbook 12th edition 1944
Kempes engineers year book 1945(2855 pages)
The Starrett Book for motor machinists 1940
The Starrett Book for machinists 1940
The Starrett Book for machinists apprentices 1940
    Fitting Practice Molloy 1941
    Toolmaking Cole 1943
    Tool Design Cole 1943
    Lathework Molloy 1941
Shop Practice for home mechanics Yates 1920
Gasoline and Kerosene Carburetors Page 1924

Plus some other old books of doubtful use.

    Some serious reading to come.

Some of that stuff may actually be collectable and worth more than its face value.

    Simon,

The books came from an auction winding up the estate of an avid collector.

I just flicked through the Fitting Practice book and there is information in there very relevant to the home workshop today. Machinery's Handbook will be great to keep in the workshop for reference. Only the later tooling and carbide sections will be missing.
The Starrett books are a type of early precursor to the modern day Black Book but using Starrett tools.

Looks like a bunch of excellent books - nice score. What mattered then, still matters now I guess. I have a mint 1941 machinery's handbook that I got for $20 on gumtree. Amazing book and so happy I have it.
