    Default Straight Edge.

I知 after a medium size straight edge, 300 mm

I知 not wanting to spend more than about $80 Au at present,
So , I知 not expecting to be able to buy a high end precision edge.

I will be mainly using it on some woodwork plane builds , that I知 planing , using metal,to check edges once ive filled them.
(One small note point , I do have a small surface plate, but I知 away from my workshop till we come out of lockdown in Melbourne).
    I致e found this online.

I知 in a bit of a flux, one, I知 not wanting to spend up big, two , I知 a bit over Chinese Junk.
So , I知 a hypocrite at present.

    Cheers Matt.

That is a knife straight edge.
It would be hard but not impossible to use it get a surface flat without twist but a good 30cm steel rule would do almost as well and if you don't have one already cost less.

Wanting to step up from the steel ruler,
I actually put two steel rulers edge to edge the other day, an there was notable gap,
    I check them tomorrow again!

    Cheers Matt.

I've got a couple of 375mm ones machined but not scraped. However there's no way I'll sell one for that money.

Good-cheap-fast. You get to pick 2. China or India are your choices.

I just noticed in Mag-Pro' s latest update they have a few straight edges, no idea of the accuracy, just saying.

If I need a straight edge, I use one of my spirit levels with a machined edge. Obviously not tool room precise, but it is a level up from a steel rule (although my old Chesterman ruler is pretty straight too) and being stabila is made in Germany. They do a 400mm machined edge level for under $80.
Mitutoyo 528 series straight edges are about $250ish from Australian suppliers for 300mm

As Old Croc mentioned, Mag-Pro has them. 18" stainless 5 tenths accurate for $50 + freight.

But interestingly, the title for the listing says stainless steel, maybe a stainless blade with a mag/ali grip.

    Hi Guys,

    Deceptive wording !

There seems to be a lot of that about at the moment, with everybody trying for maximum coin.
