Default dore westbury boring and facing head

I recently had the good fortune to find some relics from the past, including a Stuart 10H casting kit, a Potts milling spindle and a dore westbury boring and facing head kit of castings.

might be a long shot but wondered if anyone had plans for the dore westbury kit? possibly better chance maybe if i posted on the model engineer UK forum but my log on seems not to be working any more, so thought Id ask here first.

the boring head basically is meant to look like this

    what I got is this

    the kit is bottom right

while I could make it up as I go along when machining, just though it might be useful to know what sizes things were meant to be.

Interestingly the Stuart 10h kit is possibly 1940s vintage as it uses mostly 3/32 BSW threads which I found were replaced with size 7BA bolts in these Kits around 1950.

    thanks

    Hi ZSteve,

Reeves still have the drawings and castings for the boring head. The drawings are currently £5.00 UK.

You can order them via the website.

    HTH.

    Hi Steve,

$43 !!! That is ridiculous. A letter, no more than a few grammes to Au.

I'm not surprised about the postage cost at present.

A couple of months back my wife went to post a small padded envelope to her father in NZ for his birthday. Austpost wanted $30 - the reason given was that there isn't much international freight capacity to NZ at present, so they were having to pay for "priority mail" space.
Prior to COVID I'd guess it would have been around $10-15 postage for the same item.
FWIW the envelope is still sitting on the bench here....

I managed to track down some plans for the boring head and since building the stuart 10h I have been slowly working on machining the castings

    this is the alloy saddle

then doing the bronze sliding body between centres to fit into the saddle.

the bronze was quite abrasive, needing the HSS tool to be resharpened regularly, but I ended up using a carbide bar which needed less maintenance.
