Soft Jaws !
Hi Guys,
I needed to make some more soft jaws for the lathe chuck. So yesterday I cut a chunk of 1/2" thick aluminium plate 50 mm wide by 5" long, to make some fingers that I could fasten to my existing soft jaws with the M6 countersunk screws into the existing threaded holes. I cut all the pieces on the bandsaw. I wish that I had bought one of these years ago, particularly when I think of all the times that I got back ache from hacksawing stuff.

These pictures show the bandsaw setup for cutting the 50 mm by 125 mm piece of aluminium plate into 1/2" thick fingers.

Here are three pictures of the aluminium fingers, drilled, countersunk and screwed to the ECJ soft jaws. I machined the tapers on the ends and fitted them to the jaws and bored a centre. I stamped them with the position in the chuck numbers, so that I will know which finger attaches to which jaw.

This how they look on the chuck.
Now to get on with machining my grinding spindle shaft !Best Regards:
