    I agree with you on the level of flatness that is likely to be achieved by surface grinding. My intent is to map what is achieved and decide from there.

    If it all gets too hard you could always cut it into strips and scrape the straightedge by the comparison of three method..

    If it gets too hard. I will dump the plate and get another which is flatter to begin with.

    Hi Eric, how close tolerance did the plate come to off the grinder.
    Did you end up scrapping it???

    I borrowed some gear from @MichaelG and surveyed the plate. It is incredibly sensitive to temperature variation and load but as far as I can tell at around 20șC it has a hollow in the middle of around 2 tenths. So a pretty good outcome.
