350mm rule
Gday All. I hope everyone has had a good weekend.
I promised another forum member I'd send him a bit of carbide to make a carbide scraper with (will try and post tomorrow Ed)
Whilst I was looking through various boxes for the carbide I came across this.
350mm rule big.jpg
Something else I have forgotten where (and when) I got it from (and forgotten I had) I had some old newspaper (late 1988) in the bottom of the box and this rule had somehow managed to work its way under the paper so probably been there all that time.
Looks like it hasn't been used as it was still in a plastic bag. Probably for a machine. The good thing is its 350mm long.
How many times have you been making something that's been just slightly longer than 305mm? I enlarged the hole in one end and now it's hanging on the wall with my 150, 305 & 600 rules.
Almost as good as getting a new tool in the mail.
woo hoo

Billie; I’ve only just twigged. Why are standard rulers 305mm anyway? Is it supposed to be 300mm plus a bit extra so you can actually measure around 300?

A while ago Daiso were selling 400mm Stainless steel rules, so much better than the 300mm ones as described by the OP. I got so used to the longer one I bought all they had, now there is one on every sawing machine in my workshop.

Pretty much the same here. As Baron said, Rulers were Kings & Queens. We were taught that it was a rule rather than a scale though.
150mm rule is a marvelous bit of equipment. Has lots of uses.
Great for scratching you ankle without taking your boot off, Use it as a screw driver, a spoon for sugaring and stirring your morning cuppa, knife for spreading your Vegemite, or opening envelopes, fly swatter, flat scraper, the list goes on.
Annnnnd in a pinch, can even be used for measuring things.
