PDW had something about inviting him to do a scraping course a long time ago. The cost back then was fairly steep to say the least and likely putting up Typhoid Marys out of the USA for a compulsory fortnight in a hotel probably won't improve the cost - assuming the flights run again at some stage. Thought there was an effort to get Machtool to run a class again a few years back, but he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth!

That would be great if someone could, for all of us not wanting anything to do with facebook.
I have emailed Rich directly expressing my interest and he reckons he has passed on my details to the 'mates down under' but id like to see whats up.
I think if he was going to have to self isolate for two weeks he would probably just can the trip.
Cheers

Hunch, I was organising the Machtool thing - he kind of went to ground. Didn't answer calls or SMSs. So, that evaporated. Funny though, I was talking about this just a few days back. Maybe could give it another go - but I wouldn't feel confident. I do understand there was some bad air betwixt the forum and he. That might be why things went silent.

Checking PM he hasn't posted there either since the end of last year, maybe he's been flat out or just sick of the BS.....I can think of a few empty vessels over there that post non-stop crap, that would light his fuse! Hosting strangers over a precious weekend for little reward while using your professional equipment wouldn't be that enticing perhaps too.

I would be able to do both or another one at some other location as the air tickets would be the biggest expense I would think.
when we have a better schedule we can email more info. I am hoping the facebook posters would help before I get involved. I suspect the charge will be per student depending on the number we can get. Here in the states I charge US$ 1850.00 for 5 - days / 50 hours with 8 to 12 people. So until l we get more input that will be the price. That includes my labor and expenses. It may go down or up depending on everything.
Thanks,
Rich
Bill.

Not me, Joe Hovel. It all went pear-shaped. Wonder if Richard's charges have moderated these days. Doubt it.
I have a lot of respect for Rich King's skills and none at all for him as a person. His history on Practical Machinist is there for anyone who wants to know why, not going to repeat it here.
As for Phil (Machtool) you may well ask the esteemed, fair and balanced moderator of this forum why Phil is no longer with us. He got banned permanently. He talks to some of us back channel but says he's no longer interested in running courses after the way he was treated.
FWIW I agree with him and I, like a number of others, no longer post much of interest here despite having a number of projects I suspect people would find interesting. On nearly all forums the members are the product and clicks/visits translate to advertising revenue and I don't care to aid this one by gifting it my work for this purpose. Phil is a mate of mine.
Enough said, I won't be responding further here.

I found Phill's course to be well worth the effort to get to melbourne to do it. I learnt a lot. Have used his tuition for my own couple of projects. Still have his booklet he gave us.
He and Marco tought us a lot!!

I can only second Peter’s comments regarding Phil. He called a spade a spade and didn’t suffer fools but he helped more people on this forum than most know. It was a tragedy to lose someone with his knowledge and willingness to help from the forum. It hasn’t been the same since. As for the scraping weekends that Phil ran I can only say that I found them very informative with Phil going above and beyond to organise them for no profit for himself. It also brought forum members together which was a priceless experience.
Peter if you see Phil can you say hi for me.
Thanks
mark

Ah, sorry. Remember there was a bit of acrimony about a double-cross or some other nonsense accusation over the other side about 9 or 10 years ago, regarding the proposed course here.....and I naturally thought of you!
Can't imagine he's the same in real life, as he comes across on the internet, but guess there an orange bloke who exhibits almost the same tendencies and he's all too real.
