Ah, I just assumed a lathe that size would have a more than 1hp

Out of curiosity, what inserts are you using and what depth could you get? There must be something that will chip properly

Hey - Elan - no inserts. Using this guy: https://www.eccentricengineering.com...ight-c46079019 with the cobalt HSS. My go to tool. I do have some inserts / holders. Funny, I didn't even think of trying them. Will give a go.

CCGT is the way to go for ally, the ground edges are super sharp and they just slice through it.

Hi all, I hope you and yours are all happy and healthy.

A few pics of some progress here. The spindle and intermediate pulleys are done. Motor and spindle pulleys yet to get keyways. I've made the eccentric and the shaft for the intermediate pulley. I've still yet to make the handle and locking mechanism for the eccentric.

Shout out to Anorak Bob for the pics here: https://metalworkforums.com/f65/t181...c-mount-photos. Most helpful. Mine had to be slightly different but those pics were very very helpful. Thanks Bob. 👍

The eccentric took some fiddling and measuring to make sure the inter pulley (when at max eccentric) didn't foul with the lid when closed. I was a bit worried about that as the pulley dimensions I am using are from 2M/3M and they've got a wider lid. But, we're good.

This all means I can do a test fit up of everything to see what I could see.

So, not there as yet, but getting there!

    All comments and advice welcome.

Greg, I think you should be appealing the local 'Boat Anchor' designation at this stage.
A re-classification is definitely in order.
    Very nice work.

    Richard,

This quote was from 2005. I can't imagine the price has gone down.

Ouch! You know, it did occur to me they likely still sell them - though, funnily, not until after I had started. but ... I didn't want to price them up just in case they were 'affordable' and I'd feel like a complete idiot! Relief!!

You can get them a lot cheaper than that from aliexpress, USA and more importantly Australia from places like Adelaide Belt and Hose and which I am sure other suitable alternative places interstate. You can even get them with no bore if so desired.

    Default done

All back together and functional now. The 'techo1 switch' is in (thanks mate), the 'Anorak Bob lid clip' has been fashioned (thanks for the dimensions mate). Plates (erm 'badges'?) all done. The eccentric lever done also. The belts (which are the stock lengths) are a tad long I feel, so some shorter ones arrives next week. A few smallish things left (like elec cable glands) - but, we'll call 'er done enough. It runs quiet and in lowest speed hits about 140 rpm. I'm not sure of top speed because I can't count that fast. But, it'll be in the order of 3000-3500 rpm I imagine.

This has taken a lot more time and effort that I thought it might, so thanks all for the kind words and encouragement along the way. "Without pictures it didn't happen", so, some pics:

I'll get some pics together and do a separate post on how I did the badges, erm, ... plates, I mean tags .... etched thingies.

    Thanks again all,

    Greg.

PS. .. oh, and I need to do the 'stop' that stops the table falling as you loosen it.

    Looks great, well done!

Shouldn't be too hard to calculate the theoretical speed from the pulley ratios, ours sounds like it's going to take off in top speed
