If I do end up actually making them then I'll send it back. But thanks. Very generous.

    Greg,

The McPherson's catalogue of 1960 shows Waldown drills with the abreviated cast iron belt guard, the '66 catalogue shows the drills with the pressed steel guards fully enclosing the pulleys and belts. The '66 catalogue also includes an illustration of the 2M which did not appear in the earlier publication.

My drill is the 3 Morse version of the 2 Morse-ed 2M hence the enlarged spindle nose. The heavier construction of the 2/3M allowed the provision of the larger spindle taper but I reckon the best feature of the 2/3M is the over centre belt tensioning device.

Rest assured, my drill did not look like it does now when I bought it. It had the mandatory porch paint overcoat in dribbled hammertone green. Apart from the repaint, the best thing I did for the Waldown was to replace everything I could with stainless steel.

And yes, they are oil holes.

Send me your new postal address.

    Bob.

Greg, I have no idea what these came off as I got them in a box of junk that came with my Seneca Falls lathe years ago but they appear to be 4-step A section pulleys from a drill press.

The steel one looks to be 9/16" bore with 1/4" keyway and the alloy one is a plain 3/4" bore.
Unfortunately the alloy one has been modified on the outermost large flange so is probably only good for taking dimensions.
If they are of any use to you they are yours.

    Thumbs up

Thanks very much Ray, appreciated. I'll measure up some Waldown ones tonight (hopefully) and also the motor shaft / key and splined spindle thing setup I have to get a starting point. If I can use one or two of those, I'll sure snaffle them for sure. Thanks.

    Hi Ray, Guys,

I've seen pulleys modified like that to fit on a lathe backplate used to drive a milling attachment or similar.
    Best Regards:

That would depend on what you do with it.

pipeclay - thank you. very kind of you. I'll see how I go.

I've done some measuring on pulleys, so if I need to I can make those. I've not yet compared them with the 5 speed ones I have - to compare speed ranges - like, maybe the min speed of the 5 speed range is like 800 or something coz they came off something with a 6 pole motor - who knows. I'll check later.

I also managed to snaffle a table in better condition than mine. Pics to follow.

    Greg,
If you found my resto of my SIL's Waldown 8SN, you can see the mounting of the centre pulley. It is an excentric poivot in the top of the post bore.
The pulley holds two bearings. The excenter in held (and clamped) with a single bolt into the side of the main casting into a groove, which also stops the excenter from falling in or slipping out upwards.. To change the belts, just loosen the bolt, change the belts and pull them tight. The excenter finds its own position and you can then clamp it - or not. It works well and give you lower speeds. Your second pulley with the very large bore may be that center pulley. If not, it makes a great candidate for boring recesses for the two bearings.....
Give me a call any of this needs clarification.
    Cheers, Joe

Gudday Joe - someone else I owe beers to no doubt! I hope you and the good lady are well mate.

I am pretty sure this old girl is the two pulley model - so no centre pulley. But .... got a link to your thread? I can't recall seeing those pics.

    Greg.
