Graduated Rod/Bar
Thsi is a long shot, does anyone know where I could buy a graduated rod/bar/shaft at least 300mm long. This marking guage has one as an example of what I am after though it does not have to be round, I thought of using a 300mm rule but it most probably not rigid enough.

The only graduated bar I can think of is the likes of a drill press quill stop or saw guide but they generally aren’t that long and likely not cheap to buy as a spare.
Could you glue a 300mm rule onto a heavier piece of bar?

Some Starret and German rulers come in 2mm thickness which makes them quite rigid but I think they are at least 1m long and cost an arm and a leg.
A 300mm (non-digital) depth vernier calliper can be bought on ebay for about $30

Cheap 300 mm Digital ones can be had for about $40, I bought one of these a few years ago and compared it to a Mitzi I borrowed from the place where I used to work and it agreed very well.

I have thought about putting a rule on a backing pice, Moore & Wright do a narrow 300mm rule that might be suitable. Does anyone know if a laser could put graduations on a rod or bar?

Probably easier to do it on a mill , if only after graduations.

300 mm marks on a mill, that could take some time I guess but I will ask my toolmaker Brother in Law what he thinks.

If you just wanted say 1mm marks I guess you could set up a bar in the lathe, slightly offset from centre, and screwcut with the appropriate pitch so that you are only cutting a short arc of the thread. Be difficult to do major divisions though.

What about a combination square rule? No rigidity issues on those
