Default 1095 Spring Steel were are you.

1095 spring steel were are you.

I’m having no luck trying to find 1095 spring steel in Australia at .5 mm or there about in thickness.
I can get 1095 in thicker sections ie 1/8 3 mm.
    But no luck under that.
I’ve contacted a few Knive making suppliers, a few of the bigger metal companies.
    No luck either.
I know it’s available overseas ,especially the US ,but I would need to sell a kidney for the postage and exchange rate at present.

I’m wanting 1095 by .5 mm for making handsaws (for wood the softer metal lol )

It is sometimes packaged as 1095 shim stock in rolls blue tempered.

I would be happy with a roll of that.
Anyone know of any local suppliers ?

    Cheers Matt.

I got no idea if this helps or if it's the type of spring steel you are after but on eBay there are numerous sellers selling 0.5mm piano wire in 1 m lengths for reasonable prices.

Just re-read your post. Your not going to want piano wire like I suggested. Lol.

    Big help I was!

Ye piano wires probably on the small side.
    But I appreciate the thought.

Matt, how would you go making the handsaws out of a suitable bandsaw blade?

Pretty sure places that sharpen bandsaws would have a suitable material, or a blade that can no longer be suitable for its purpose.

If it’s 1095 (Which I think most commercial bandsaw blades are)
I would be happy like a pig in mud,
Tho the sizes I would need ,are minimum would be say 60/70 mm wide by say 200 mm long.
Such as a small dovetail saw(small 1095 Spring Steel were are you.)
But it would be great if I could get big sizes too.

So that would be a pretty big bandsaw blade.

    Cheers Matt

Matt, I've seen 200mm wide bandsaw blades in the back of the delivery truck, so 70mm shouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks Kryn,

I think it’s definitely worth looking into.

Actually it’s definitely definitely worth looking into.

There’s a place in Melbourne that sell Oregon ,
They have a monster bandsaw is the factory for re sawing logs.
An I’ve seen the blades sitting on the side, there very big.

    Cheers Matt.
