    Hi Jon, Guys,

It reminds me of something out of a windmill, a bit like a husk separator. Particularly with the patterned areas and steel bar running through it.

    I could be totally wrong.
    Best Regards:

    Hi jonjon,
    Welcome to the METALWORK FORUMS.

Certainly it is history and it is also predominantly timber. I have to agree with elanjacobs and will say a Metalworking Forum is an odd place to seek information on a (mainly) timber article.

Possibly, you did start your search in the Woodwork Forums where this forum, started from and where there is reference to our MW Forums and that is how you got here?

True, some of our blokes may have a foot in each camp but in general we are just DIY metal work or woodwork enthusiasts hardly antique experts.

Jonjon being from the the UK ,the home of antique and vintage artifacts , surely your country would be the ideal place to research the item.

You know Antiques Roadshow and many many antiques shops ,there must be many more places per square mile in the UK as opposed to the Australia. The UK is steeped in such history but out antique shops and experts with UK history experience are thin on the ground.

Having written the above, some body will probably now emerge and supply the answer.

A suggestion, if I may, would be to take a photo of the unit as a whole piece. It is difficult to mentally assemble the jigsaw puzzle of photos to work out what it really looks like.

    cheers
    Grahame
