    Default New old face plate

A friend very kindly gave me this . It appears to be a face plate . It is 16" diameter with a threaded 2" bore . It is too large for any of my lathes , might be usefulas a drill press table . Whatever it is its damn heavy .

    Hi Morrsisman,

Its not a faceplate, its an independent four jaw plate chuck.

I would say a combined 4 jaw/face plate, handy either way

    Hi Dave,

Its intended to hold thin parts for turning. Sometimes called "Wheel Chucks" ! I've seen these maybe four feet in diameter.

With all those slots I could think of many other work holding methods it would be good for.
Then you have the 4 jaw, bonus

    Hi Dave, Guys,

Somewhere I have a picture of a lathe that would use that type of chuck. But I do agree that with all the holes in it, it would be very useful as a plain faceplate. The problem would be finding a lathe that could support such a large diameter.

Found it. This is a "Wheel Lathe" The chuck is a six foot across version of the one you have.
