    Default Where to buy sulfuric

I'm trying to figure out where to get sulfuric acid in NSW.
I want it for aluminium anodizing.
I've tried bunnings, auto elecs, auto part stores, etc. a local plumber's supply have it but they want a massive $70 for a litre.
I'm not sure who would use the stuff.

I don't even know if it has to be sulfuric but that's what everyone on youtube uses. . Maybe one of the other acids will work the same.

I would try a car battery supplier. $70 per litre sounds like it may be analytical grade, way higher spec than would be needed for anodising aluminium I would think. Carswells or other plating suppliers would be another avenue worth chasing up if battery shops unable to assist.

I was under the impression that sulphuric acid was a controlled substance.

That would be interesting. I'll see if I can find the article.

I did watch a few youtube vids on it, but I also came up with this :

The May issue is still available at some news agents and at Jaycar branches.
The good part about this article is that it relates to products and suppliers which are current and Australian.

I read the article but in the end decided it's a lot of work and I would need a very good reason do my own anodising.

Please let us know how it works for you.

A very recent series on metal finishing includes https://youtu.be/Z1zT8p7d9Z0 on anodising.

    Now that's even more interesting.
He uses sodium bisulfate in place of sulfuric acid, and guess what?, I've already got some of that.

Now it's time to cut some aluminium.

A pity you're not near me. I bought 5 Litres of conc. Sulfuric Acid, ~8 years ago, for that same purpose and could never get the power supply to behave. I've still got 4 Litres untouched and no idea of how to get rid of it.

For what it's worth my advice would be to keep it in a well secured location, so that you have it available for future uses such as dissolving broken drills or taps from Aluminium, or making blueing brews for metal finishing or even anodising.
Your problem with the power supply may well have been the formation of an insulating anodised layer where your workpiece was connected to the supply. It can be tricky as that connection point must remain un-anodised to maintain the electrical connection.
