Dufour 624C Overarm Support
Does anybody have or know of a Dufour 624C overarm support that I may be able to purchase? Failing that, would anybody have any idea of where I might find some plans for one so that I can make it? My last resort is to measure the mill and come up with my own design.
EDIT: I am not after the long shaft but the head that mounts on the 2 shafts and supports the arbour.Last edited by Mk1_Oz; 16th May 2020 at 09:29 AM. Reason: Clarity

You might be lucky but I would say if it's only for standard rather than heavy duty horizontal milling you would be better of fabricating your own.

I don't think making one will be too hard. If I can get the overhead arm holes right then I can use the horizontal spindle to spot a hole for the bearing. Cast iron or steel? Would it make any difference?

I don’t think it will make much difference, so I’d make it out of whichever is easier to source.

You would probably need a piece of cast around 200 diameter maybe a touch more.
Fabricated out of mild round and flat with a bronze bearing would probably be cheaper.

The original was probably a cored out iron casting. replacing it with an iron or steel machined solid part will make it a fair bit heavier and awkward to fit and remove. Using solid aluminium might be an alternative which would be much easier to get and make the machining much easier as well. Although my mill is smaller than yours the Support is an aluminium sand casting with a bronze arbour bush so there is a precedent.
Mm.

Thans for the input all. Ally would be easier to mill also. Not sure cost wise..
