Puzzled at semi
I was just looking at this :
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BS-0-New...d798e5d4c12146
What do they mean by "semi" dividing head ?
Might be ok for my RF30. Cheap enough.

Judging by the similar items, I suspect they mean "semi universal"; it's got the 40:1 ratio and a set of plates, but it doesn't have geared indexing for helical milling and all the in between numbers that don't divide into the plates like a true universal has.

Yep, 'semi universal'. For comparison, look on the Machinery House website at dividing heads, you will see that the 'Universal' dividing head comes with a stack of change gears.

Hi Phaser,
Yes it takes a bit of getting used to ! I'm having my tea when you lot are in bed.
Its 8:30 in the morning here but according to my clock its 17:30 where you are. Of course that also depends upon the time zone. I think that there are three across the continent, so +/- an hour !Best Regards:

The modern world never sleeps -- 3 time zones in winter, but 5 in summer!
Are you on daylight saving time? I thought
Eastern States +10 UTC, SA and NT +9:30 UTC, WA +8UTC -- only in our winter (Late March to early Oct) but you then have summer time so I have lost the plot.
In Summer it is scary as Daylight saving is not implemented in WA or Queensland (unsure about NT?) although some businesses use it to their advantage and have call centers in WA getting 3 hours evening service to the eastern states at normal pay rates.
Thanks for the clarification of Universal verse semi-Universal. I have never used a dividing head, only a rotary table coupled with an accompanying spread sheet of cumulative degree settings to divide a circle, I set up the numbers and my son did the cutting - he needed an 11 tooth chain sprocket.cheers
David

Hi David, Guys,
Yes we are. Its currently one hour, but there was talk of making it two hours ! But how on earth do you manage five time zones ?

Hi Pete,
Yes you are quite right !
And yes I've just had a clip round the head for getting wrong.
That's the trouble with being quite deaf, I don't hear her coming and standing behind me reading these posts.Best Regards:
