Ball castor stem replacement
I picked up a old drinks trolley. It was missing 2 of the 3 ball castors. The stem on them is 5mm which i cant seem to find replacements.
I found in shed similar ones but stem is too thick.
Does anyone know how to remove the stem so I can machine down the stem to size. Or where I could source new ones from.

What equipment do you have?
Lathe? Mill?
If not removable, you could potentially use a boring head with the tool facing inwards. Would require some careful work holding and alignment but doable if you can't remove the stem.
A photo of the underside where the stem inserts would be helpful.

Yeh No lathe or mill. Lost those toys when I retired.
Cut up the spare one and found the stems are only push fit with a small c-clipin a groove holding them in place.
Might be able to thin them down by holding and spinning in a drill while up against my linisher belt.
They arent seen so not to critical on the finish.

Done. 5 min on linisher then put stem into pedestal drill chuck and finished off with file.

Who needs a lathe when you have a Drill Press!!!!!
Have done that quite a few times at work, to make a special sized pin.

Fixed for now. Ill try and find some more like the originals but till then it looks the part.
I found it on verge pickup. Its a Luigi Massoni designed drinks trolley made by Guzzini in 1970's .
