Default Chevalier FSG 618 Surface Grinder hub puller

    Hi
Does anyone have a grinding wheel hub puller for a Chevalier FSG 618, photos attached. I am after a photo and dimensions including thread pitch so I can make one for my machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers Doug

Should not require a puller, remove the nut and the hub and wheel should come off, may need to gently tap with a soft hammer if it has been in place for a very long time

Thanks China, I wanted to remove the grinding wheel with the jub attached so as not to disturb the balance.

    Hi Doug,
You could try the web site below or email then for info. I suspect the machine is a copy of something originating in the USA.

AS far as I am aware if you follow what I suggested the wheel and hub will come off together

I can't help you with your request for dimensions, but what is needed is something similar to a FJ Hub puller.
    FJ Hub Puller.jpg
First question, do you have a set of thread gauges??? Second, do you have something large enough to accurately measure the OD of the Hub? As you were going to make one, you would/should have the the gauges and measuring device, it's then a simple matter of measuring the depth and diameter required and the TPI of the hub.
The puller bolt should be less than the inside diameter of the holding nut, so that the bolt will go down the inside of the hub, and needs to be the the length of the hub plus the length of the body.

I must be missing something here, I am no expert I have had dealings with three different makes of surface grinder none of them needed a puller or had any way to use one

Some are internally threaded in the counterbore where the spindle nut goes, you remove the nut, screw in the puller then tighten the bolt on the puller to put force on the end of the spindle and remove the complete wheel and wheel adaptor as an assembly.

The puller for my Qualos surface grinder is similar to Neil's but with a second section that screws into that, so you engage the larger thread in the internal thread of the hub, then screw the smaller one in against the end of the spindle where it has been centre-drilled.

Default Chevalier FSG 618 Surface Grinder hub puller

My Herless 618 "project" also has a threaded hub to take a puller.
I don't have the puller so will need to make one, but the thread pitch is 1.25mm, and the inside diameter of the threaded section is 24mm so I'm guessing it will likely be M25x1.25 thread

Thanks for your photo and suggestions, I would like to thank everyone who has replied to my post, you have collectively lead me to the answers I needed. I was at first confused as my surface grinder has metric dials and as it was built in Taiwan I assumed that the threads would be metric. When using my thread guages, a 1.5 pitch metric thread seemed to fit as the pitch is very close to a 16 tpi thread and as both have a 60 degree form, I thought my assumption was correct but the diameters I was measuring didn't line up with my metric assumption, hence the request for help. After doing a bit more investigation, including looking at the wmsposko website as suggested above as well as clues in a couple of You Tube videos I now realise the Chevalier 618 is a copy of the Boyar Schultz Model 618 Surface Grinder and uses US imperial threads. The puller I need to make requires and inch diameter 16 tpi external thread with a machine screw threaded into the middle to pull the hub off after removing the spindle nut. Thanks again for everyone's help. By the way I have obtained a pdf copy of the manual for this machine if anyone is after it. Cheers, Doug

    Default Double Check

    Steve
Your spindle looks very similar to mine and may be imperial as well. It would pay to double check your thread pitch as mine turned out to be an inch 16 tpi thread with a 60 degree thread profile. Also be aware that your spindle nut is left hand thread, as it the wheel nut. By the looks of the holes on the wheel nut someone may have been trying to undo it by doing it up!
    Cheers, Doug
