I remember, a story from my Grandfather who owned a tailoring business around the 1940's and employed some Chinese workers, the Chinese opinion was that if they could not take over the world by force they would simply buy it

From a quick poke around the interweb and assuming this translates to Australia and the rest of the world, it seems that in the US air freighters were about 10% and passenger planes were about 90% of commercial flights. If each passenger plane carried a guesstimate 5% of the cargo of a dedicated freighter and most passenger planes are grounded that means 45% of air freight capacity has disappeared.

Within Australia, AusPost seems to struggle at the best of times but right now they are receiving the same number of parcels they usually receive each day of the pre-Christmas rush.

Interesting youtube on the size and scope of the Fedex operation.

My accessories turned up yesterday. Only the floor mats fitted. I'm sending the seat covers (made in China) and dash mat (made in Australia) back. The whole lot came from Melbourne in less than a week, so the the internal post is working ok.

I have had several international orders arrive in the last week (US and UK), and tracking shows parcels leaving China with fair regularity. In fact my castor wheels from AmazonUS arrived before items from H&F across town.

My two recent China orders made it through customs and export in about 2 days. So a bit more than normal but not outrageous.

Everything is slower, which means that our model of Just in Time logistics is rapidly failing, but that doesn’t mean that it is suddenly feasible to relocate entire manufacturing chains back to Australia. What will be needed is a larger buffer in logistics trains.

I have about 6 parcels coming from China. They have all been in Melbourne for about 4 weeks. I'm in Bendigo, 150kms from their sorting centre....
I've also sent stuff to the USA and it didn't go from Bendigo to Melbourne for 12days, only to be sitting in Melbourne ever since then - 14 days and counting.
I think Austpost is totally overloaded and international freight is purely luck of the draw at the moment....

    Cheers

    Default Update - use EMS

Whilst most of my March and April shipments are still sitting in China waiting for a flight, I have received the shipment which I ordered last!
Ordered on 16 March, delivered 4 May.
The difference with this consignment is the shipping was via EMS, all other parcels are China Airmail, Aliexpress shipping, etc.
From this experience I conclude that EMS shipments are actually getting out of China. I placed another order and asked for EMS shipping which the supplier offered at an additional US$20 compared to the their standard Aliexpress shipping.
We'll see how this one goes, but I will certainly ask for EMS on all orders from now on.

Freight is all over the place. I have an item bought 9th April in Indiana USA and since then it says shipment received, pending acceptance.

It looks like they have internal problems as well.
I ordered something from China on ebay on Friday and today I got a message saying

"We are experiencing major delays obtaining orders and we would like to offer you a chance for a refund. If you would like to know when these items come back in stock then please indicate if you would like us to contact you".

It's easy to say don't buy from China but the $ rules. The dilemma I have is I need some Ratchet Lever Clamps, only made in China, I need 2 of the female threaded version. I searched and an Aussie eBay shop has them for $8.50 each plus Freight from Melbourne or I can get 5 of them from Hong Kong for $8.90 for the five and free postage.
    That's the problem.

    Rgds,
    Crocy.

Old Croc is right, I have to buy two Ipad 5 cases. I looked on Ebay, ranged from $15 incl delivery to $30.00. So I went to the local mobile phone kiosk type guy and he wanted $45.00 each. Not saying they where the exact same item but it had a big "Made in China" sticker on it's back. There's no way I'm buying one little lone two! Ebay it is.

Just about everything is made in China and in our hobby, if it's not there they are pretty much too expensive for hobbyist to buy.

I ordered a Norbide Dressing Stick from Germany early April and the seller cancelled it and immediately refunded my money. He was most apologetic and said that German Govt (?) Post (?) had cancelled all posting because of the virus.
