Machinery and Material suppliers in Melbourne?
Now that I have moved all the machinery across from Adelaide to Melbourne i am of course on the look out for suppliers here. But not having done much machine metalwork here I don't know the supplier network like i used to in Adelaide (and even then half of the mobs in Adelaide have closed down). This is also compounded by several of the places that I know about being shuttered for Coronavirus, and so not really knowing whether they are still there or just closed permanently (as driving across town to find out is less than ideal). Finally, it seems like lots of the tool places that I would have gone in the past have turned into generic resellers who don't particularly know much other than what they are selling. For example the guys at H&F had no idea what i was talking about when asking for Dymark or engineers blue layout dye; and the few tool shops I went to seemed confused when i asked about cutting paste and just pointed at the Treoflex spray. Similarly I called up a few of the local metal suppliers around here and none had any machining steel or aluminium rounds.
Perhaps somewhat ironically, the older guys at Bunnings have been the most help with trying to get oriented here. But even then most of the places they suggest are long gone or shuttered from Coronavirus.
Hence I am appealing to the wealth of knowledge on the forums and hoping that people can point me towards suppliers. I am in the inner west of Melbourne, so most places are relatively inconvenient (especially as lots of the machinery suppliers seem to be in Dandenong).
Currently I'm searching for some layout blue (Dykem preferred), a good thick cutting/tapping paste (no idea what the tin i had last was, label had worn off in my Grandfather's day), and a supplier of steel and aluminium rounds and blocks.

I don't know how these guys in Williamstown compare to places on the east side of Melbourne but they do supply offcuts of steel and aluminium.
I have bought from them several times and they are definitely handy to me being in Werribee.

You can get some engineering supplies from this mob in Newport - probably not far from you?

I haven't been there for a while but am guessing they are still going.

Some of my go tos:
Bearings: aa bearings and oil seals in nunawadding or BIS in braeside.
I get most of my supplies online. My favourite paste is trefolex
Steel: Vulcan steels (ex interlloy) in Dandenong.
Aluminium: Auluminum express don't remember where they are as they courier to me which is cool.

Hi Takai,
I use the large square tip permanent markers for laying out ! Much cheaper than Dychem.
I get mine in packs of four in four colours, they seem to last for ever, I'm still using some I got in 2010 when I started this hobby.Best Regards:
Baron J.

Yeah, ive been using Artlines for now. Still much prefer Dykem.
If i cant get some locally ill have to wait until im in the US next, which Covid willing will be in November. Might be bringing back a bunch of US centric stuff then. Hopefully I wont have to convert the Dykem to metric!

I use Rocol cutting paste, high sulphur sticky smelly black stuff. From Waughs in Bayswater (Vic) They also have (or did have, been a while) spray cans of layout blue.
Also in Bayswater - Action Aluminium have lots of offcuts, blocks of 5083 and 6061.
Eastern suburb, usually a slow drive but maybe ok now.

You've got a Blackwoods in Altona North. They'll have just about everything you've mentioned.

Total tools on Geelong Rd has Dymark marking out blue
Rolling bearings west in little boundary Rd if you are after bearings, or CBC is about 1km further up the road.
There’s an engineers supply place just across the street from rolling bearings. Can’t recall the name - only been in there a couple of times. Counter staff vary in helpfulness.
I’ve been working around that area for quite a few years so give me a yell if you’re chasing anything else.
