    Hi TheApprentice, Guys,

Its very difficult to find any tooling that's actually made outside China or India for that matter ! But I agree, why pay the middle man prices that are five times or more than what they really are ! Particularly as hobbyists, I don't mind waiting two or three weeks for bits and pieces.

Profit is the name of the game for businesses, just look at the Supermarkets posting huge annual profits and at the same time moaning that Christmas sales are down, and now people are panic buying whilst at the same time Supermarket prices are being pushed up, and choice is being reduced.

About the only thing that seems to have come down in price, at least here, is petrol ! Its down around 35 pence a litre. That is £1.57 p a gallon in old measure. Diesel hasn't altered much, maybe a penny or two.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

    What Baron J said.
Would love to support Aussie business, but cant afford the prices they charge.
Recent trip down to SA said petrol for $0.99 cent a litre, diesel $1.29 cents a litre.

    Hi Guys,

Has anybody noticed that all the "Free Delivery" from China is been slowly replaced by delivery charges ! I've also noticed that delivery times have gone up from 7 to 10 days to 20 to 40 days, and some are quoting 3 months.

Aliexpress have taken to emailing me urging me to buy things that I've looked at, put them in my basket and then put them on my wish list or just logged out and deleted the cookies. I'm not going to spend anything at the moment. They want your money, but it may be a very long time before you get your goods, if ever !

But having said that, I'm not spending anything at home either.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

Yes I have noticed that, things that I had added to my cart on the 20th March were free postage, on the 30th all had postage charges now. I guess now that the china virus had desavated tyhe western market they can do what they want.

My last order was placed on 28 Feb 2020, arrived today.

Yep same thing here, I noticed eBay China is quoting next month delivery here in Australia if not more.
I'm am still waiting on stuff from mid February and early March from AliExpress.

I bought some stuff from a Aussie seller that was supposed to be here on the 1st of April after buying on the 28th. It was garenteed delivery as it was through a courier business, still haven't got it.
So buying Australian doesn't help with postage times, lol

With the passenger jets all on the ground, all the cargo that was being flown over in them, is having to wait for dedicated cargo planes or coming by ship. That's why the longer shipping times. There also may be delays in customs doing more thorough inspections or being set aside until any viruses are sure to be inactive. Our stuff would also be a lower priority than medical supplies. With what has recently happened I'd prefer to buy from anyone other than those south of me.

i learnt long ago that most used machinery dealers have a lots of used brand name tooling at a fraction of the new price
which is far better quality than what comes out of china
some examples i have purchased are clarkson, p&n clare endmills, morse taper drills of all sizes, morse taper jacobs super chucks ect ect
i have tons of gear most of it aussie or usa europe made, auction job lots ect
even a couple of new old stock waldown bench drills for less than $200 each
i know some things you need you can't get will have to come from china
but if you do a bit of research you will find you can buy lots of workshop tooling and machinery in australia thats far better than anything out of china
you will be surprised if you take the time to look
i just buy second hand and would not bother buying chinese rubbish, why wait when its already here and better quality,

    Hi Dodge at4, Guys,

The Chinese can and do make good stuff ! But like anywhere else there is rubbish made and sold by people that just don't know any better, and rouges that will do anything for a quick buck !

My experience of the Chinese in general is that they don't like others to criticize them or their work ! The odd time that I've complained they have been very apologetic and replaced poor goods. Though I'm starting to form the opinion that Banggood in particular are getting a bit lax. This could of course be down to Covid19 and its effects.

I've not bought anything from Aliexpress for a while so I don't know what they are like at the moment, though they obviously track what you are viewing and are starting to pester you to buy.

    Time will tell.
    Best Regards:

So it's quality you are worried about? Sure didn't sound like that in your previous post.
Still No (though at least it could be argued that that argument has a place here)
As for research... perhaps you should do some.

You can't blame everyone in China and boycott them for this. That's like saying people like you and me are to blame for something our government etc either did or didn't do.
They have there families to feed and bills to pay like us. I'm sure there hating this current situation just like us and want it back to normal as we all do.
