    Default Beaver turret mill owners?

I have a Beaver MK2 turret mill and would like to correspond with any other Beaver mill owners if there are any out there?
e.g. is there a drain hole anywhere to allow one to drain the coolant sump?
My coolant pump is not currently working and I have to ascertain if the switch or the pump is at fault but all the electrical connections are within the mill and protected from moisture by glands into the switch meaning access to the switch is difficult for an electrician - if the fault is with the switch I'm sure a new one will not be obtainable so I plan to replace it with a modern switch mounted outboard with glands where the wires exit the mill

    Hi Alf,

Attach some photos. While you may have a Beaver, it may have been sold under several name badges.

If you attach a pic then there maybe other people with the same mill but badged differently and may still be able to help.

My Pacific (Lagun) mill does not have a drain plug for the coolant reservoir.

I had a rather laborious task of emptying and cleaning the coolant reservoir when I first acquired my mill. It was a right PITA to clean up.

    Hi Alf, Simon,

Would a quick blast of air down the line show that the line and pump was clear ? The last one that I had anything to do with was full of sludge and that was what had blocked the feed pipe. We ended up using a paint scraper as a small shovel to dig the stuff out. Ever wondered where the saying "sticks like s**t" came from.

Hi Alf, I have a Beaver Mk2 as well but I don't use the coolant system so can't really answer your question but I doubt that there would be a drain plug.

Simon, the Beaver machines were made in England and were not available under any other name.

    Hi Techo,

I didn't realise that. I have since educated myself by reading the writeup of them on lathes.uk

    Interesting read.

    Thanks Tehco 1
Due to problem keeping coolant clean and difficulty of removing same I have decided not to use the Beaver coolant pump and will use a remote coolant pump/tank which I can empty and replace coolant when it goes "off" - don't like it as I like everything to work as designed but the problems above when not used regularly make it not worthwhile
Thanks for reply - keep well
