Stamp Holder tool
How many times have we wanted to put a series of number/letter stamps in a nice even straight line, but ended up all over the place?? Well this may be an answer, saw it in an an email and thought I'd share it here. Have added the link below.
This one is for a single stamp, holds it square to the line and upright.

This was for 7 stamps but could be made for any number of them.

hi kryn. how are you.
why not get one that holds several letters at once.
One better i have a stapping press that holds a few at a time.
the other day i saw a letter stamp holder that does a date stamp . you fit it to a ram set type farstener gun for stamping gas bottles. expolosive powered number stamping.
you can just scribe a light line line and use that as a

thats cool. when i was an apprentice. We did 2 years at the beginning straight. I think 1600 hrs machining and I think 1/2 a day a week in the class room. we had to stamp every job we did. with your trade number date and hours to complete. my number way mtp123 i think. a lot of stamping if it didnt look good you would loose a point or 2. we were pretty competitive so you got good at it.

That's a nice little lathe you made Aaron. Pity about it looking like a bit of garden art.
Thanks CV, unfortunately not many of us can afford or warrant such niceties for our hobby.

That's what eBay, auctions etc are for. I think most of us are in the same boat, if we had to buy new machinery and tooling i'd say most of our sheds would be looking very empty.

Kryn, one thing you need to check is that the stamps all stamp at the 'same height'. I've heard stories that some of the cheaper sets don't always line up.

Hi Michael, are you talking about the depth that it goes into the metal or the overall height?
A lot of depth problems arise from not using a big enough or too big a hammer.

No, just that the letter (or number) is not a uniform distance from the edge of the stamp. If that is the case, even if you had a gadget like the ones you have pictured, the stamping will not be straight. I'd suggest trying before marking something important.
