(online) supplier of small grinding wheel
Hi all, I am the happy current custodian of a very nice ex-ABC waldown c-0 tool post grinder (I know coz it has a sticker). I've recently sorted a belt for it - but now need wheels - internal and external. Any clues as to who may sell wheels to suit it? Some searching around online reveals that sellers sell what people normally buy (what a surprise) .. and that is not small grinding wheels. External max 85mm, internal max 25mm.
Anybody had some success re same?
Greg.

BaronJ, thank you. Morrisman, thank you as well - their online shop is only for fasteners I see. You've got small grinding wheels from them?
If they have the goods, hopefully their freight is less than getting it from the UK. It wouldn't be the first time that was not the case - I've bought from the UK before 'coz it was cheaper landed than buying in oz - go figure.

It is strange that Thomas Warburton does not have grinding wheels on their website, I have bought Norton and Kinik wheels
from them in the past. You had to order what you wanted over the phone and they would post them.
Stray if you have no luck with Warburtons try Ajay, he is the sales rep for Kinik 0438633167

Toolposr grinder
Hello Stray.
For the internal wheels try Abrasiflex in Melb.
For OD wheels 100mm is the smallest common toolroom wheel though they may have a 75mm unit if supporting a customer's needs. You can always dress a 100mm wheel down if needed. A lot of custom built wheels where generated by dressing down standard wheels. For a one of use a diamond dresser and slow speed on the wheel. Up the speed for final pass. I have seen the dressing of large crankshaft grinding wheels and the factory used cup shaped wheels, 25mm dia, coated with diamond.
Regards

Best of luck with Warbutons now. Used to be great but after the takeover they "Are Now A Global Company" (their words) and only have a warehouse in Dandenong South. They do not do counter sales or pickups. They are also "Kinik" Au.
I tried to buy 7" x 1/2" wheels from my Kinik cattledog. I was sent a quote for a number of wheels, none of which matched what I wanted. I gave up with the BS and finally ordered Norton wheels from MSC in the US. Was before the AU$ crash. I went via a US forwarding company as the MSC carriers freight quote was over $450 for 7 wheels. MyUS did it for around $125.
I will soon be looking for small internal grinding wheels so will most likely go this route again if-when the AU$ rises.

Seems to have been a few threads over the last 18 months or so with a common theme of reducing suppliers locally for specialised grinding wheels.
Looks like Norton is quite big in SE Asia, but doesn't even have an office in AU. Wondering whether anyone has tried contacting them directly through their Singapore office or Facebook etc?
Surely there's got to be a closer/cheaper source than having to go to to the US...

Steve,
A few years ago and pre StGobain takeover, I was able to source some Norton wheels through the local bearing/industrial supplier for my T&C grinder. After the takeover I tried again for the surface grinder wheels and when they checked their catalogue I was told "not available to Australia". Some of the employees don't appear to like getting off their asre for customers with non run of the mill items.
None of the Shepparton industrial suppliers were of much help either. Also tried Weber Abrasives from Adelaide as suggested by forum members; but couldn't even get a reply from them. That's when I started looking OS. With the poor Aussie attitude', I have no sympathy for them if and when they go belly up.

Yes, frustrating when you want to buy something and nobody can be bothered dealing with you.
I often wonder if its just the person you speak to (or the one looking at the email inquiries) that can't be bothered, or whether its a directive from management that they don't want to deal with small sales as its just not economic.
Counter staff with attitude can usually be worked around, but if its company policy then its a brick wall.

Abrasiflex appear to have a suitable range of wheels in their catalogue. Their office is not far from where I often work, I went in there when I was looking for a diamond dresser for my surface grinder. They were unable to supply one- offered me a few leads that also came up blank and I ended up on eBay. They were definitely not set up to deal with small sales to small customers- I would suggest knowing exactly what you are after and expect to buy a box rather than individual wheels.
I'll soon be looking for TPG wheels myself, I may be able to facilitate a group purchase from Abrasiflex of a few boxes of what we all need, split them up and forward a selection.
