Steve, you could try Robert Cameron & Co in Burswood, near the casino, usually has offcuts, price tends to be higher end. No connection, Alan.

Capral here in Adelaide usually have small pieces out for sale at reasonable prices, left overs from commercial supply where they cut to order, or the straight and flat bits off the ones that didn’t fare so well in transit. Maybe check out one of their branches. A 300x300 plate of 12mm in 6061 T6 normally sells out of the oddments area here for $25 to give you an idea of price.

Capral in Canning Vale or Welshpool occasionally have off cuts. A few years ago they would also guillotine 1.2m long strips of a larger sheet of 10mm but >12 mm had to be Cnc router cut so a minimum set up and cutting fee of $70 applied. What specific size are you after?

In that case I would be hunting around scrap yards ! Also you might find that engineering places will happily sell you their scrap or even give you bits of it.

I get various sizes/ offcuts from the local boat building place in Mandurah when I'm in that part of the woods. They eyeball whatever I pull out of the scrap bin, and charge me based on their calibrated eyeball judgement of weight, and the "near enough" scrap value.
Thinnest is around 2-3mm, thickest has exceeded 20mm (but it's rare to find stuff thicker than 12mm as common in the bin)
