    Default reverse/ forward on mill

    Hi all
I have a old Long Chang rf 30 Mill/Drill ( the original of the Rong Fu ) it has had a hard life, however it would be quite useful for many things undertake.
Question is the switch ( plain on off ) is basically a suicide device is there a valid reason to replace it with a forward reverse type.

There would be if you need reverse, if not no.

    Hi Guys,

My BF20 has a reverse position on the main switch, supposedly for tapping. I only tried it once ! I'll stick to tapping by hand !
    Best Regards:

One of the useful uses I find for reverse on a mill is for finding the cutter-workpiece kissing point. I run the cutter slowly in reverse and slowly move the workpiece into position until it just touches the cutter. In reverse most cutters don't dig in and just make a rubbing sound. I don't know how kosher this is but it seems to have worked successfully the times I have used it.

Have you ever considered using a thin piece of paper to touch off with ( tally how/telephone book )

Well in that case, if you need to replace the switch anyway, get a for/rev switch for roughly the same price. If you never use rev then no big deal I guess.

There's 50 tally-ho's in a packet Bob. Buy a couple of packets and you should be fine for a quiet a while.
I can't tell you how much it'll cost you these days because I haven't bought any for 15 years, but I'm sure it won't blow the budget.
