Hi Aaron, Guys,
Oddly enough I was watching exactly the same technique being used yesterday to cut some threads for 6000 psi hydraulic fittings in stainless steel. The only difference was that the chap I was watching was using a single chaser from a Coventry die head in a holder.Best Regards:

Thank You Azzrock
That was a great video.
There is no better use of a wet afternoon watching what these fellows can do with limited equipment and tools.
My only regret is that I am unable to understand the audio.
Some of the U tubes have subtitles and there's some very good techniques to be learned from various operators.
Because of the language barrier it is often an instance of monkey see, monkey do, where one, at least, can get the gist of what is being demonstrated.

Hi Grahame,
What's a wet afternoon?????
I agree with you on being able to understand the audio, being partly deaf doesn't help either.
Have been on a few where the subtitles were in another language too!!!

Tapered thread cutting.
Hi Guys,
Only because I watched a tapered thread being cut on Thursday, I can tell you exactly how its done.
In the video he used a tap with a ground off end to produce a flat end to get up to the shoulder, you would just use a thread chaser in exactly the same way. With the chaser tool held in the lathe tool block, you would set the teeth on it at an angle such that it would match the angle of the taper that you want to cut, then you would set the lathe gears to cut the thread that matches the chaser and taper.
The saddle would move in the same way as it would if you were single pointing the thread. Moving the top slide to put on the right depth of cut. Of course you would have to make sure that your chaser was set up properly with the cutter teeth on centre hight.
The guy that I watched in the engineering works used a set of three go, no go, gauges to check each part that he cut. One to check the thread size at the root of the thread, one to check the actual thread diameter and one to check the thread length. Apparently the end of the thread had to be within 1/2 mm and dead flat.
Fascinating to watch and very educational. Though with a 1000 plus to make I think I would have gone a little stir crazy by the end.Best Regards:
