Tap sharpening attachment
SAM_0580.jpgSAM_0579.jpgSAM_0578.jpgThe old goat is back with more pics.
This an old tap grinding attachment. The first pic has the pivot to set lead angle, the base is long lost but a piece of plate will do for that.
Pic 2 shows the cam inside of the handle, there are a set of cams from 3 flute to 6 flute. As the handle is turned the cam causes a lever to to rotate the aux or smaller shaft. This pivots the main casting to the base and provides radial clearance. The tap is held between centers with a smart opposing V block drive. The knurled knob on the main casting operates a travel limiting stop. For LH taps the cams are assembled reversed.
This tool is I think older than me and in excellent order.

I bought one of them off eBay in November 2012 off Tissuecars (it could well be that exact one as mine had it's base missing as well). I never end up using it so I resold it. I just tried to find who I sold it to, but couldn't find the record of sale. I do remember though that it was someone that was selling Welding Gear. I had posted on a couple of forum sites with this one included trying to find out who made it. Someone did come up with the brand 'Royal Oak' but I did some searching and I don't believe that it's that brand. I even tried reverse image searching, but no luck there either. How did you come by it if you don't mind me asking?.
I just found who I sold it to 'Welding Equipment Sales' in Geebung, Queensland (sold it in Nov 2015).All The Best steran50 Stewart

Tap gringing attachment.
Hello Steran 50.
It seems the old bit of gear is back in the news. Yes I am Weldingequipmentsales.
I have bought a few items off Tissue scars but it is a lottery.
While trying to figure how to regrind taps on my Clarkson grinder I remembered the old attachment. It seems to be easier to set up.
Regards

Hi BC
What a small world, I was sure that was the one I had and it is (going by the cable tie holding the cams on). I remember when I had it that it seemed to be fairly straight forward to use. I had planned to use it on a Herless BM450 Tool & Cutter Grinder, but never did. I hope you get some good use out of it.All The Best steran50 Stewart
