Default What's up with my intermediate pulley?

I don't recall it being like this prior to transporting it 150km but I didn't take photos beforehand so I could be wrong. What has gone on here? Also, what's the purpose of the bent bar that's threaded into the base of the intermediate pulley? It can't turn terribly far in either direction before fouling the belt guard, I had the same question about the Workmax as it's identical.

This was rolling around under the intermediate pulley (photo has turned itself upside down):

    Any help appreciated!

Before worrying too much about the threaded bar, I would be looking for the reason why the tops of the pulleys are not in line with one another.
The intermediate pulley spindle is way out of perpendicular.
What is causing that? Possibly the threaded bar when tight, kept the pulley spindle from moving upwards under load from the belts.

The hole that the spindle is located in does not look flogged out,so my guess.is the spindle moved up and is badly bent.

You should be able to put a straight edge across the tops of the pulley and have them pretty close to level.

The belts will take up a bit of mismatch but not for too long. You can see all the rubber particles worn off the belt already, a further indicator of the problem.
I would pull it apart and check for those problems.

The pulley has ridden up during transport. The brass bar goes in the hole and has pressure applied by the threaded angle lever thing. If you remove the belts, put the brass bar in and slacken off the handle, the intermediate pulley should sit where it is meant to. You can then replace the belts.

It was the lack of perpendicularity that I was mostly concerned about - have yet to see a press with non-parallel spindles that's meant to be that way! Thanks for the response.

Thanks - will stick that bar back in the hole and see how I go.

All sorted now - and I get the purpose of that little bar, it took putting the belts back on and having a play with it for it to make sense but it does work nicely. The intermediate pulley's shaft had cocked in the bore and a spritz of Loctite freezing spray and a gentle knock caused it to fall into place neatly. Belts back on and looking good.

    Thanks fellas.
