Default Mystery Tool Accessory - What are these things?

    .
I bought two of these "things" at a market a while ago, not knowing what they were, and I still don't know.
    I am very curious.

Each is threaded 1/2 inch 20 TPI male and female at each end, as in photo.
The units come apart and are held together with a ball retainer.
There is a magnet inside each end to retain something.
No other markings than as in photo.
    Very well made.
    Unused.

I thought that they may be some kind of quick change drill chuck attachment, seeing as the threads are 1/2 x 20.

Free to anyone in Brisbane who wants them and can pickup, and who has posted more than 10 times in this forum.
I will wait ten days to see who is "in the hat" and then select the lucky new owner.

    Thanks Techo1

Are they meant to be changed between say a Jacobs type chuck and the internal 1/4 inch hex drive, or between multiple Jacobs chucks?
If If it is meant to be for multiple chucks, I would have thought they would be sold with one female threaded part, to take the drive, and multiple male threaded parts for the chucks?

Do you have a manufacturer's name please?
If I do a web search, I cannot find them?

    A few more photos.

That "hex insert" is removable by unscrewing the grub screw, and has a magnetic insert on the far end.
The insert has what appears to be a 1/4 inch AF internal drive.
