Calculators !
Hi Guys,
I got a cardboard box full of goodies given to me this Christmas, mainly small tools, slitting saws and a couple of nice whet stones. In the box were a couple of calculators ! These originally came from the private workshop of the owner of a small Birmingham factory that made and serviced locks. The factory closed down in the 1990's most of the tooling being sold for scrap, including several "Drummond" lathes, drilling machines and other equipment. Sadly I'm told that what was the factory is now a housing estate.

This double sided one is complete with its plastic sleeve ! It dates from the mid 1970's.
I found this information on line:

This double sided one is more akin to a circular slide rule, having tap and die information for a number of screw variants, along with clearances, speeds and feeds. This one dates to the 1960's.
I've never seen either of this type of calculator before, being more used to booklets either downloaded or given away at engineering shows. I believe this company is still in business.Best Regards:

I used to own one of the circular "slide rule" thread calculators, but can't remember from where it came.
It did work but was more of a novelty than a useful thing for me.
I think I binned it after realising that plain tables were more practical.
Thanks for the nostalgia.

I've got one of the circular ones somewhere. I used to use it regularly back in the day when I was in industry. They have an advantage in that they can be easily carried in a tool box. Id forgotten I had it. I'll have to dig it out as it would be useful at home.
Thanks for the reminder
