Shaper tools and more
SAM_0570.jpgSAM_0571.jpgHello from The old goat again. I won't be here for a few days so I'll post another. Tired of grinding tools and can't get rid of the chatter.
The first pic shows a keyway tool holder for the shaper. To it's right is the reducer bush to suit, with the boring bar. If I fit a square end tool in the boring bar it cuts keyways. The large bush to the right lets me use the same bar in my borer's snout bar holder. Second pic has a lathe boring bar holder with an eccentric bush to adjust for center height.
Regards
BC

I'm a fan of spring tool holders to avoid chatter.
Shown is a parting tool that I tried on my shaper, which worked OK.
Also an ebay find from USA, looks like a one off.
Even without spring tool holders, I always try to mount the cutting bit so the point of contact with the job is behind the shaper's clapper box base. Then any bending of the tool holder will tend to lift the bit, not dig it in with the resulting chatter.
